Rosaisela "Rose" Cota was born and raised in Douglas, Arizona, where her passion for education first took root. She began her teaching career in her hometown before moving to Tucson, where she and her husband Robert have built a life together. Tucson has become home, not only for Rose but also for their son, Bobby D., a proud graduate of the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD).
Mrs. Cota has devoted over three decades—30 years and counting—to public education, all within TUSD. Her career reflects her unwavering dedication to student success and equity in education. She has served as a Bilingual Classroom Teacher, Instructional Coach, Teacher Mentor, Assistant Principal, and for the past eight years, the Proud Principal of Johnson Primary.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Cota has specialized in Pre-K through 12th grade Curriculum and Instruction, Bilingual and Multicultural Education, Restorative Practices, and Administrative Leadership. She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Northern Arizona University (NAU) and later obtained her Administration Certificate from the University of Arizona. With deep pride in both institutions, Mrs. Cota considers herself a true "LumberCat"—a blend of Lumberjack (NAU) and Wildcat (U of A).
Mrs. Cota’s distinguished recognitions include being selected as:
- RODEL Aspiring Principal (2012–2014)
- Master Teacher through the Arizona K-12 Center
- Lead Now Principal Candidate (2017–2018)
- Nominee for Principal of the Year (2017–2018)
These honors reflect her leadership, vision, and commitment to excellence in education.
Though officially retired, Mrs. Cota has returned for one final bonus year to complete an extraordinary 35 years in public education. Her leadership, heart, and impact continue to inspire students, staff, and the Tucson community she has so faithfully served.
